On January 24, 2024, at the European Biathlon Championship in Osrblje (Slovakia), our biathlete Alina Stremous won the silver medal in the individual 15 km event.

No one among the top three competitors made a single mistake on the course, so the competition was very intense; however, Alina managed to surpass them, finishing in second place.

She finished 46 seconds behind Kirkeida but surpassed Kapustova by 13 seconds. Alina has thus repeated her success from 2022 at the European Championship in Germany, where she also won silver in the individual race and gold in the 10 km pursuit event.

“Excellent news for the entire Republic of Moldova - our biathlete Alina Stremous has brought the country a silver medal at the European Biathlon Championship! In the women's 15 km individual event, she made no mistakes but fell slightly behind in speed. Alina, it was a wonderful race! We believed in you and encouraged you. We saw your desire to win, and that inspires! Thank you for the medal and for the emotions. Go, Moldova!” - wrote Dmitrii Torner, the president of the Biathlon Federation, on his Facebook page.

Immediately after the award ceremony, Alina Stremous shared her own impressions of the competition and spoke about her toughest challenge: “In this race, the most important thing is to shoot well. It is crucial to ‘hit’ all the targets; just running well is not enough. I ‘hit’ all 20 targets. When I realized that I had ‘hit’ the first 10, the hardest part was calming all my thoughts to concentrate further. Psychologically, the last target was difficult - it was very important not to miss. What did I expect from the race? At one point, I thought I would win; I wanted to win, but winning silver - that is also an important victory. The first to congratulate me were my family, friends, the Federation, and my opponents also congratulated me: Romania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan. I can’t say whether Moldova is already considered a serious competitor; I can’t speak for others. I was already on the podium in 2022, and probably the more often we get on the podium, the more seriously we will be taken. I am doing everything possible for that. Thank you to everyone who supports and promotes Moldovan biathlon!”
