On April 27, the first open cross-biathlon competitions were held in Chisinau with the participation of students from grades 6-7 from Waldorf and Gaudeamus high schools.
The sporting event was organized within the framework of the joint project of the President of the Biathlon Federation of Moldova Dmitry Torner "NEXTGEN" and the International Biathlon Union IBU project "Biathlon4All".
15 young biathletes competed in three disciplines: men's individual, women's individual and mixed relay.
The fastest and best marksman in the individual event was Voicu Damian, a student of Waldorf High School, with a result of 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Stefan Ștefan Șeremet and Dmitri Hachi were just a few hundredths of a second behind him.
Among the girls, the best result was recorded by Waldorf High School students. Tomiris Pîntea took first place with a result of 3 minutes and 47 seconds. Evelina Mazilu and Bianca Mihailova were second and third.
In the team event, students from Waldorf High School were the best with a score of 5 minutes and 22 seconds. Their colleagues from Gaudeamus came second - 7 minutes and 07 seconds.
The teams' coaches, Marina Șendrea (Gaudeamus) and Andrei Dupceac (Waldorf) noted that the students have been practicing biathlon for only 2 months, but are already showing successes. For many of them, biathlon was the first sport they started practicing.
All those who took part in the competitions received diplomas and the winners were awarded medals.
Dmitry Torner, the initiator of the NEXTGEN project, said that at the end of May, there will be competitions for children involved in five biathlon sections.
"We want to organize a real celebration of biathlon for children. We want this to be the start of their great biathlon journey. NEXTGEN has been created for this very purpose - to find and educate a new generation of Moldovan biathletes. If the boys work hard, train persistently and demonstrate high results, the best of them will be able to participate in the 2026 Winter Youth Games. We need generational continuity and we are ensuring it, we are educating future biathletes today," said the President of the Moldovan Biathlon Federation.
We remind that the free biathlon sections are active in Waldorf and Gaudeamus high schools (Chisinau), as well as in the city of Criuleni and the villages of Rassova and Izbiște.
